GPOA in partnership with Sheriff Leroy Baca and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, will be sponsoring a 3-day international training conference for LGBT police officers, deputy sheriffs and federal agents from across the country and around the world. The conference will provide cutting-edge training in areas such as hate crime investigations, domestic violence in gay and lesbian relationships, police officer suicides, and many other law enforcement related classes. The training and emotional support that this conference will provide cannot be found anywhere else. more »
Law enforcement plays a vital role in the development and safety of the communities in which we all live, work and play. However, law enforcement still tends to hold onto old, conservative ideals. For many of our men and women in uniform, the very departments they work for can be as stressful and scary as the streets they work in.
The Gay Peace Officers Association of Southern California (GPOA) represents over 400 police officers, deputy sheriffs, federal agents, deputy district attorneys and fire fighters in the greater Los Angeles area. While a few of our larger L.A. area departments have made great strides in the areas of diversity and acceptance, many of our members still work for departments or agencies that have yet to recognize the value of their LGBT employees. GPOA offers its members career training opportunities, legal representation, emotional support, and the ability to network and socialize without fear of discrimination or retribution. GPOA also provides diversity training to police departments, sheriff's departments and law enforcement agencies throughout Southern California.
GPOA is a non-profit, 501c(3) organization and all donations are tax-deductable.
