About the GPOA
The Gay Peace Officers Association of Southern California (GPOA) is a non-profit, social, and community organization of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) peace officers and civilian law enforcement professionals. Our membership includes active, reserve, and retired peace officers and civilian employees of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.
The primary purpose of the GPOA is to provide a safe and supportive forum in which LGBT officers and law enforcement professionals can tackle the many difficult challenges they face in the workplace and at home such as discrimination and coming out. Utilizing peer support and counseling the association is able to enhance and improve the personal and professional lives of its members. Members can connect, network, and socialize with others in their respective profession without the fear of discrimination or retribution based on their sexual identity or orientation.
The secondary purpose of the GPOA is to foster, represent, and promote a positive and professional image of LGBT men and women in law enforcement. The association participates in community events to not only encourage pride and promote visibility but to also strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the LGBT community. The GPOA encourages and promotes further education and training on diversity issues amongst its members and law enforcement agencies.
